Communication & Publicity
We are the members of PMKCA who enjoy bringing to light the wonderful, unusual, sometimes problematic, and significant things about mauka Pa’auilo and Kalōpā that make our living here such a pleasure.
We write the content that appears in the PMKCA Newsletters that have appeared regularly in the Hāmākua Times monthly newspaper over many years – may the Times survive after the tragic loss of its editor, David Becker.
We publish timely Bulletins to the PMKCA Mailing List, about 140 PMKCA members and others who like to follow what is going on in our communities.
We recently introduced a complete renovation of this PMKCA website (www.pmkca.org) to refresh its appearance and provide more useful content to members and community residents. Explore the new website!!!
We assist the PMKCA Board and other committees by publicizing their activities, successes, and challenges. We help assess what issues are important to our communities by developing questionnaires that give residents a chance to guide the priorities that PMKCA sets, or that influence our connections with government agencies and authorities.
We have plans to bring more attention to the small businesses, artists and craftspeople, farms, and ranches that operate in our area by creating a directory of products and services, so that our residents can find a local source when they need help or are looking for a product.
Oh, and we would love to help plan more community events that bring us together – young and old folks, kama’aina and newcomers, ranchers and farmers, professionals, retirees – everybody! We believe that more fun a community has, the more resilient it can be in meeting adversity.
These are not small or simple tasks, but we enjoy what we do!
If you see yourself being a part of what we’ve described here,
we invite you to join the Communication & Publicity committee.
